NEWBORN HATCHLINGS

A FREE PROGRAM FOR 3-6 MONTH OLD BABIES
An educational & stimulating water familiarisation program for parents and their newborns. Created in conjunction with occupational therapists and experts in early childhood development.

Babies are born with a natural affinity for water. To enhance this relationship we have created this free program to encourage an early start to the life long journey your child will have with water.

This is the beginning of a wonderful aquatic journey. One that promotes stimulation, movement, touch, bonding, intellect, visual, audio and social, emotional & physical development,

BABIES & TODDLERS

BABIES AND TODDLERS

From 2 months to 36 months and featuring 7 different levels. Babies & toddlers are grouped according to age with a maximum of 5 students per class. Featuring an advanced class for swimmers who excel and a transition class to help toddlers ease into a class without mummy or daddy. And a free course for newborns and their carers.

Every Child is Unique. Every Child is Respected.

HATCHLING BUBS

AGE 7 - 15 MONTHS
Our ever growing bubs are now becoming very mobile with endless energy. They are crawling, pulling themselves up on furniture, walking and climbing. In the early stages they can be experiencing separation anxiety. They understand more words than they can speak.. We encourage activities to provide them opportunity to explore. The child’s work is play and games, without knowing it, your bub is learning breath control, floatation, movement and safety.

HATCHLING TODDLERS

AGE 16 - 24 MONTHS
Your Toddler’s gross motor skills such as walking and running are improving. Their primary focus is movement and their need to control both situations and parents is astounding. Social skills can regress and this age can become assertive, power hungry and independent. Counting, verbal direction and constant activity will encourage skills including kicking, paddling and independent movement with a focus on safety. A challenging but exciting age.

HATCHLING KIDS

AGE 25 - 36 MONTHS
Our ‘Kids’ bodies now become more proportionate, have less body fat, and have an improvement in their fine motor skills. They are stronger and able to swim longer. They will be able to coordinate arms and legs and some will be able to lift their heads to breath. It’s time for mum and dad or carers to take a step back and watch these little people develop into independent swimmers (with a lot of supervision and guidance as well as being there if needed). With a little more structure and skills working on straight leg kicks, paddle arms, change of direction and plenty of swimming, these champions will be ready to advance into the transition class ready to take on life without mum, dad or carer in the water.

SHELLBREAKERS

AGE 16 - 36 MONTHS - advanced
Our Little Snappers Shell Breakers are exploding out of their shell! An advanced group of children who have breath control, floatation and independent movement. These children generally are able to swim and we are here to guide them and keep them moving. Children at this level need to be swimming the entire 30 mins of class. Our emphasis is teaching the child to be able to continuously lift their head out of the water to take a breath and continue swimming. While these children are physically advanced, parents are still in the water providing social and emotional support when the little ones need it as well as a little extra hands on in times of need.

LITTLE SNAPPERS TRANSITION

AGE 24 - 36 MONTHS - parent on step
Socially and emotionally, these children are able to take instruction from the teacher. Parent will still be there but the children will now be taking instruction from only the teacher. The focus now is on being in a group, learning to take turns, respect and taking instruction from the teacher. The skills they have acquired are built on and different methods of movement are explored. Safety and the ability to be able to tread water are paramount.

LEARN TO SWIM

LEARN TO SWIM

Our Learn To Swim program teaches the foundation of becoming a competent swimmer. Our signature classes feature uniquely small class sizes. Allowing for maximum one on one instruction, less waiting for their turn, and most importantly, progress you can measure and see. Children are grouped according to age and ability. And all students swim without a parent in the water. Boasting 8 different ability based levels. Catering to children who exhibit fears through to overly confident swimmers needing guidance. Your child will flourish in this intimate setting. Building a solid foundation of skills that will last a lifetime.

We teach from the heart. And the rights of children are always at the center of our philosophies.

WITH TWO AGE GROUPS, STUDENTS ARE LEARNING FOUR LEVELS OF SWIM SKILLS WITH OTHER CHILDREN OF SIMILAR AGE AND ABILITY

SCHOOL AGED 5+

LEVEL ONE

INTRODUCTION TO WATER
A gentle introduction to swimming lessons for those children who are nervous or scared or those who have never had lessons before. Our program is designed to guide, encourage and praise children while letting them move at their own pace. A proven method for introduction to water.

LEVEL TWO

BREATH CONTROL & FLOATATION
For water familiar children who are starting to enjoy the stimulating activities that are part of their lessons. These activities will encourage the children to submerge happily and start to feel floatation. Tread water and safety is an integral part of this level.

LEVEL THREE

INDEPENDENT MOVEMENT
Now the children are able to submerge and float they are ready to become mobile in the water. They will have the ability to move from point A to B by different movements of the legs and arms. The children will continue to work on safety and the ability to tread water.

LEVEL FOUR

INTRO TO FREESTYLE & BACKSTROKE
An exciting level that works on refining the child’s rudimentary kick and body position on the front and back. Correct pattern of arms in freestyle are developed prior to introducing side breathing. This is an important stage that requires correct kick, body position & pattern of arms to be mastered prior to the next skills being taught. Time to learn “Big Arms”. Tread water and safety remain an integral part of the lesson.

STROKE DEVELOPMENT

STROKE DEVELOPMENT

This program is age & ability based & builds on the skills developed during the earlier stages of instruction. The focus of the program is to further develop correct technique in all strokes. The program builds on water safety and survival skills. It provides the basis for progression into squads.

Swimming is a journey, one that lasts a lifetime.

LEVEL FIVE

FUNDAMENTALS OF FREESTYLE & BACKSTROKE
Now that the student has mastered a good body position, kick and pattern of arms it is time to teach them how to perform a side breath in freestyle, and to perform backstroke with correct pattern of arms. Tread water and safety remains an integral part of the lesson.

LEVEL SIX

DEVELOPMENT OF FREESTYLE & BACKSTROKE
A culmination of mastering all the body position, kick, pattern of arms and breathing to produce a child who can swim freestyle breathing every 4 arms and backstroke with continuous movement of their arms. Tread water and safety remains an integral part of the lesson.

LEVEL SEVEN

INTRO TO BREASTROKE. MASTERING FREESTYLE & BACKSTROKE.
A class that introduces bilateral breathing in freestyle, extensions of backstroke & the introduction of breaststroke kick with correct timing. The children will continue to work on becoming stronger more confident swimmers, increasing the distances swum whilst maintaining correct technique. Tread water and safety remain an integral part of the lesson.

LEVEL EIGHT

INTRO TO BUTTERFLY. MASTERING OF ALL STROKES.

SQUAD

SQUAD

The focus of the program is to further develop correct technique in all strokes as well as teaching dives, turns and an understanding of aerobic and anaerobic training techniques. A program that caters to the mental, social & emotional ability of a child not ready to cope with the rigours of training in a ‘club’ situation.

At Little Snappers we are bridging the gap between swim schools and swim club.

Your child should be able swim 1km freestyle with great technique to enjoy a life of water sports & activities

WITH TWO SQUADS BASED ON ABILITY, STUDENTS ARE CONTINUING TO REFINE THEIR STROKES. WITH REGULAR MINI MEETS STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO TEST THEIR SKILLS IN A FUN & SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT.
